What is a Hackathon?

A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on software projects.[1]

The goal of a hackathon is to create usable software. Hackathons tend to have a specific focus, which can include the programming language used, the operating system, an application, an API, or the subject and the demographic group of the programmers. In other cases, there is no restriction on the type of software being created.

In a first of kind Oil&EnergyHeroes brings  a Global online open reality challenge event themed on Strategic HR & Organizational Development where OD Strategists & Management Consultants shall collaborate with talents & thought leaders  in & around Oil&Energy domain to design, Simulate & implement OD strategies at various levels towards Transformational Organizational Excellence through continuous Energy Innovation & Peer Sustainability for a better future world. That’s what the Mission “Oil&EnergyHeroes” Stands for. 

The event shall be a milestone in Oil&Energy domain for being the largest virtual event for  recognizing & rewarding the finest minds in different categories globally in & around Oil&Energy domain to address some real world challenges with an entrepreneurial team spirit driven by a collaborative peer Ecosystem model  within a competitive simulation environment .

Some of the  important issues shall be investigated with in various sub domains  in this open reality event?

• What are the major opportunities & Threats to Oil&Energy business due to changing Mega trends? 
• What are the key learnings from the measures taken by non Oil&Energy Business organizations around the world?
• Where is the Gap in current strategy to achieve the organizational goals while subjected to the changing Mega trends?
• What strategy needs to be developed and how it needs to be implemented?
   

The Motivation 

 

Brief Abstract:

Sustainability of  Energy Innovations and Peer Value Proposition are two major challenges for all industries where several global mega trends are  impacting business and innovation processes consistently. In such scenario an important question arise " How   Lean Energy Innovations could be sustained integrating a Peer Ecosystem in turn adding value across Oil&Energy Value chain? 

 

A Massive Online Open Hackathon   is proposed hereby to run scalable mixed mode programs to first establish a Gig Economy driven Peer Ecosystem with a Shared Vision and common goals, instill a value innovation culture and then developing their intellectual capabilities and innovating their careers through customized OD programs. These  participants from diverse background then engage in Massive online Open  Hackathons unlocking new values in the Digital Transformation in Oil&Energy domain which shall result in development of new product , services and businesses processes or models. The programs are expected generate new data & information from the programs which could be a valuable asset to the platform stakeholders and further accessible to the Energy value chain for research and analytics purpose.

The four major Factors of which would directly impact  the objectives of this  Hackathon to ultimately instill a Shared Oil&Energy Digital Value Innovation Corridor 

1. Digital Transformation of Oil & Energy
   • The trend of Digital Transformation in Oil&Energy is not delivering its true counts while compared to other Industries as per Accenture's recent study in 2016. Hence It would be important to investigate the gaps and an opportunity in that gap.
2. Peer Value Proposition with in Gig economy
   • The Gig Economy has emerged as a disruptive business model recently as per recent E&Y study. The contribution of a transformed Gig Economy to the  Digital Transformation process in Oil&Energy shall be investigated in the proposal.
3. Sustainable Technology & Business Innovations
   • Sustainability of Technology & Business Innovations in Oil&Energy is critical not only to Oil&Energy but also all across related industries. The impact of sustainable Energy Innovations need to be accessed to ascertain the  proposed Business potential. 
4. Transformational Entrepreneurship
   • Rising Entrepreneurship is considered as a mega trend by E&Y 2016 research study. The Entrepreneurs are creating values out of opportunities rather than mere needs. Transformational Entrepreneurs create social values rather than just financial value as per Max Marmer (HBR Article). It would be important to review how new kind of  Entrepreneurs  could bring social and financial value to Oil&Energy

1. Identify/ register problems/Challenges in different categories of Energy Business. (Pre-Hackathon/kick off)
2. Problem statement/Conceptual/Hypothetical Scenario Generation(Brainstorming)
3. Understanding the Problem to generate Probable solutions/Publish findings/White Papers/Research articles (Analytics)
4. Peers form Teams , appoint Team Leader, hire Talents through Peer Discovery/Professional Dating/ Learning sessions/Synergy Build up exercise(Teaming),find mentors & Advisors, Consultants
5. Corporates put real-world project challenges & Teams participate in the Problem Solving Challenge(Hackathon)
